Belper RUFC 10pts Leesbrook RUFC 11pts
In a match that lived up to expectations of a close, fast and exciting contest, Leesbrook got their nose ahead just before the whistle.
Both sides missed penalties as the teams settled. Leesbrook were the first to open up. Quick hands freed Olivier Francois on the right wing but he was caught by the Belper cover just short of the line.
Belper came back and Leesbrook had to defend on their line for some time before Mat Hemsby kicked a penalty awarded for a deliberate knock-on.
After half time Leesbrook turned the tables. Sean Room evened the scores with a drop-goal. Soon afterwards Chris Impey was freed to dive in at the corner to make it 3-8.
Belper came back again and camped in Leesbrook's 22 for 10 minutes. A quick-taken penalty gave Gary Dacey space to cut through and score near the posts. Hemsby convertyed to make it 10-8.
In an exciting finale Leesbrook opened up again. After several attacks met by solid defence, Sean Room kicked a penalty to take the points five minutes from time.
Leesbrook coach, Mark Haylett, said after the game...'I knew ten minutes into the 2nd half that we had the determination to win this game. We reacted quickly and tackled superbly.'
